Retired Harrison County deputy appears in court for Morgantown road-rage incident

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - A retired Harrison County deputy appeared in Monongalia County court Thursday in relation to a road-rage incident.

William Sothen, 63, of Salem, allegedly grabbed a 21-year-old woman by the neck and pushed her to the ground on Van Voorhis Road in August, according to the Morgantown Police Department. Sothen and the woman had been arguing while on the interstate, police said, and followed one another until they began wrestling in the roadway.

Sothen is charged with misdemeanor battery in the incident and entered a not guilty plea in court Thursday.

The Monongalia County Prosecutor's Office said Sothen will now stand trial in March.
