Hybrid or electric. These days is seems like cars can run anything and not pollute the planet. It's exactly what the Alternative Fuels Training Consortium is out to show. Electric cars are environmentally friendly and only cost about $15,000.

And if electric cars aren't quite your style, there's even one that runs on cooking oil. Clinton Powers is the man behind that very eco-friendly truck. It only took him three days to convert it.

"Nothing's modified except that it burns vegetable oil now," says Powell.

It's a cleaner, renewable fuel and only costs him about 50 cents a galloon. That is, when he even pays for it as all.

"I get the oil from restaurants free of charge," he says. "I go home and clean it through a filtering system."

And Powers says you won't even know the difference by the way it rides.

"There's such a slight horse-power loss from it," he says. "To the average person, unless you drive the vehicle constantly, you wouldn't notice it."

One thing you will notice, when gas prices rise, expect to see a lot more of these cars on the roads.

Powers says the most costly thing about converting his truck was the conversion kit. It was a little more than a thousand dollars, though he says it was well worth it. You can even buy those kits at local retail stores.
