Mine cited for past roof violations.
MAIDSVILLE -- The Associated Press said it was a roof collapse that killed 26-year-old John Elliot in a Monongalia County mine Sunday night.
It happened at the Dana Mining Company Prime Number One Mine.
That wasn't the first problem the mine has had with the roof.
The Mine Safety Health Administration's Web site shows 50 reported accidents since 2003. Almost one third of them involved the roof.
MSHA cited the mine for roof violations as recently as Oct. 30. They have cited the mine 27 times in the past three years for violations involving the mine's roof.
MSHA and state mine officials are still investigating Sunday's collapse.
