KINGWOOD -- Dozens of people showed up Wednesday for James DeGasperin's preliminary hearing in Preston Circuit Court. Police said he beat Lori Casteel and her son Collin to death with a baseball bat. Collin was also shot in the chest.
On Wednesday, a life-long friend testified that he got a call from DeGasperin on the evening of April 15 to come over to his house.
When he got there, he testified DeGasperin asked him to help hide Casteel's body. The witness said he thought DeGasperin was joking.
Police were called to the scene a short while later.
Trooper Joe Portato testified that when he showed up at the house, DeGasperin looked at him and said, "I'm a really good guy, I just snapped."
The case is now headed to the grand jury. An autopsy revealed that Casteel was also six months pregnant. Prosecutors say DeGasperin will not be charged with the third murder until his is indicted.
On Monday, a judge issued a gag order in the case.
Neighbors said last week that DeGasperin was a nice guy and a good teacher. He taught at the Bruceton School where his students called him "Mr. D."
