FAIRMONT --  A new tribute to coal miners nationwide could be coming to Marion County The Miners Day Memorial Association is looking into building a national memorial and museum in the Fairmont area.

The president of the Miners Day Memorial Association is in town this week.

Roy Lee Cooke came up from South Carolina to look at prospective sites for the museum.

Cooke says he likes the idea of building the museum and monument in Fairmont and being part of the revitalization of the downtown area.

The association is looking into buying property and finding an architect to design the building and already has most of the funds in place.

Cooke says he already has a vision of what he wants the final finished product to look like.

The Miners Day Memorial Association plans to hold a news conference on November 26 to confirm a location for its proposed memorial and museum. Cooke is one of the "Rocket Boys" made famous by the book of that name and the movie "October Sky".
