Students at Fairmont State used a class project to help enhance mine safety.

FAIRMONT -- Some students at Fairmont State University are working to better the community through their senior project.
Senior engineering technology students at FSU had to design an electronic project. The projects ranged from voice control systems, to robots, to high speed photography.
Two students looked at ways to enhance mine safety. Their project uses technology to keep track of workers, with a name and number, making it easier to identify who, and where, the miners are underground in emergency situations.
One of the project designers, Chris Church, said he has been working in mines for several years, that's why he focused on mine safety for his project.
"In case something were to happen, we would probably know the general vicinity they were in. That would cut down on rescue time for mine rescue teams," Church said.
All seniors in the class presented their projects during class on Monday.
