Greene & Washingtion Counties Cut Deal with Allegheny
Story by Courtney Dunn
MORGANTOWN -- Two counties in Pennsylvania have successfully kept the Trans Allegheny power line from coming through their communities. Residents in Monongalia County and several other counties have been fighting for months to keep the 500-kilovolt transmission line from cutting through their backyards. But the West Virginia Public Service Commission approved the $1 billion plan. Opponents here are outraged by this week's deal between Allegheny and Pennsylvania leaders. "The very fact the trail has given up shows us that we were right all along," said Halleck Community Association President Don Corwin, "and number two it's just yet another example of West virginia getting dumped on from out of state interests for out of state benefit." Corwin said he hopes Governor Joe Manchin and other West Virginia leaders will suspend their approval and call for a new hearing.
