Early voting records are being set all over the country and West Virginia is no exception.
CHARLESTON -- With just one day left to vote early, we've already shattered previous records. Long lines are the norm at polling places across the state these days. Secretary of State Betty Ireland says the turnout is record-breaking, "Through this early voting period we've already had 133,000 people cast an early voting ballot or an absentee ballot. That's a record".
Kanawha, Jefferson and Putnam counties are seeing a huge number of early voters. Ireland says, "We're talking with the clerks daily, nobody's having problems handling these long lines".
Here's how the voting breaks down along party lines: 31% of the early voters have been Republicans. 59% of the early voters have been Democrats. 9% of the early voters have been "no party" or independent voters.
"No party" or independent voters make up 14% of the registered voters.
More than 13,000 early voters have cast their ballots already in Kanawha County. The previous record was 12,600.
Early voting hours on Saturday will be from 9am until 5pm.
