MORGANTOWN -- More than 200 volunteers were recognized in Morgantown Thursday for their service to the community.
The President's Volunteer Service Award honored WVU students, faculty, and staff who completed 100 or more hours of community service during the past academic year. The honorees partnered their volunteerism with 85 non-profit agencies in the area.
Organizers say volunteers learn wonderful lessons through community service.
"Most of our students feel they've been blessed, had a wonderful opportunity to pursue higher education and they want to give something back. They also learned a lot about themselves than they ever thought they would." said Kimberly Colebank, director for W-V-U's Center for Civic Engagement.
The volunteers received a pin, a certificate, and a letter signed by former President George W. Bush who created the awards in 2004.
