A "bio truck" was featured Tuesday.
Story by Courtney Dunn
MORGANTOWN -- Tuesday was day number two of the West Virginia Small Farm Conference in Morgantown. Taking center stage was an alternative fuel vehicle.
It sounds like a normal car and runs like a normal car.
The only difference is Wayne Keith's Bio Truck is powered by bio mass; meaning wood, trash, paper, bottles, just to name a few, using gasification.
Keith drove the car 750 miles up from Alabama without ever using one drop of gas and just returned from a cross country trip from South Carolina to San Francisco and back. "This particular truck gets about 5,000 miles for a quart of wood," Keith said. "Based on the market value in Alabama this would cost less than a penny a mile if I were buying wood. I just use scrap wood, but if I were buying wood it would cost me less than a penny a mile."
The West Virginia Small Farm Conference continues Wednesday with a spotlight on local foods.
