MORGANTOWN -- The West Virginia Shepherd's Federation and West Virginia University held sheep shearing school Friday.
Instructors say there is a technique to shearing sheep, to protect both the shearer and the animal.
They say Friday was a little cold for a trim but they usually cut their wool in the spring.
"Students learn the positions to hold the sheep in so that the sheep are relaxed and the wool comes off in one piece," explains instructor Sarah Beamer. "Hopefully after they've sheared a few of them the wool will become a product that can be sold."
WVU will hold another day of sheep shearing Saturday.
