MORGANTOWN -- The Morgantown Board of Health heard about benefits of a county wide smoking ban at their meeting on Thrusday. The state Division of Tobacco Prevention says nearly 4000 people in West Virginia die from smoking every year, and some people in Mon County are asking the board to eliminate smoking in public places.

Dr. Bill Reger-Nash gave a presentation to the board of health. Nash is a professor of community medicine at West Virginia University. "Smoke Free Mon County" has been pushing for a ban for a number of years now. During his presentation, Nash said that simply educating kids about the effects of smoking is not enough, because cigarettes are too accessible. "We do those behaviors that the environment permits and enables," said Nash, "and if in fact if the community passes an aggressive smoking ban, the kids will get the idea, this is not a behavior that's condoned, this is not a behavior that's supported, this is not a behavior that they should be doing."

The board did not have a discussion about a possible county-wide smoking ban after the presentation.

Jeez, looks like smoking's gonna be banned EVERYWHERE pretty soon! Luckily, smoking bans (and ridiculously high tobacco taxes) don't affect me (even though I smoke a pack a day) ever since I switched to electronic cigarettes! If this happens, you should too. Hell, even if it doesn't, you still should. E-cigarettes are much safer than regular cigarettes, and you can smoke them anywhere cigarettes are banned (bars, restaurants, even airplanes)!

I found this blog that helped me figure out which brand of e-cigarette I should buy. If you're considering switching over, I hope this page helps you like it helped me:

Where is the Board of Health on the issue of alcohol consumption? I see far more havoc wreaked on the health, safety and lives on the young people in this town when it comes to the consumption of alcohol than anything else.

So what is it that this health board doesn't understand about its sworn duty to protect the public's health???
