PHILIPPI -- The Philip Barbour High School Marching Band has performed in Philadelphia, Atlanta and New York City and travels to Disney World on a regular basis.
It's time to dust off those horns and practice marching. The Philip Barbour Marching Band is off to another momentous performance.
"On Friday morning, we're all waking-up and we are going to the Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington D.C.," explained Lauren Norris, a sophomore clarinet player in the band.
Marching season for the Pride of Barbour County ends in November. So, it's a little strange to be hitting the streets this time of year.
"We've been having after school practice and going out a little after class," said John Higgins, a senior.
"It's a little rusty," said junior majorette Mariah Jennings, "But you get back into it."
Ten-year band director Victor Iapalucci confessed that getting the band to switch sounds and styles mid-season is a tricky job.
"It is difficult when you're trying to get a concert band sound, working towards band festival, spring concerts, and stuff like that, and also trying to prepare them for marching band, getting a little crisper, cleaners sound out on the street and then working on movement and maneuvers on marches," he claims.
The band is eager to perform as the only high school band from West Virginia.
"It's a great honor for our band to go and represent the state of West Virginia at the nation's capital," said Higgins. "I think that's really going to be cool."
