MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia University has taken a number of steps to show its support for Virginia Tech since those fatal campus shootings in April of 2007.
Now, nearly two years and 200 hours of work later, a WVU professor has created a unique memorial.
Levente Denes created the 14.5 foot, 600 pound wooden memorial.
He is originally from Transylvania, where the monument symbolizes respect, affection, honor and remembrance.
He and two students spent hours hand-chiseling, staining and carving the structure, which includes symbols like stars and crosses and logos from WVU and the University of West Hungary.
"Besides the unveiling and making a memorial or just remembering those sad events, this is a good occasion to develop more deeply these relationships," Denes explained.
The sculpture will be installed in front of the forestry and natural resources building on Virginia Tech's campus during a ceremony in June.
