WESTON -- Paul and Kaycee Lamb are members of the Lewis County Concerned Citizens and own Lamb Construction. They want to start green construction on Weston's municipal building.

"I would like to see at least two or three solar panels installed right away," says Paul Lamb.

"We're in a financial crisis here, as is the rest of the county and anything that we can do to invest our monies more wisely now to where we don't have to spend as much in the future would benefit anybody," Kaycee Lamb says.

A financial crisis is putting it lightly. Mayor Julia Spelsberg says the city found out in November that it owes more than $100,000 to the state government and about $400,000 to the IRS for failing to pay employee withholding taxes. To make matters worse, the IRS seized $152,000 from the city's operating budget in April to pay off some of its debts and Weston's finance manager resigned about two weeks ago.

"You know that old saying 'every cloud has a silver lining?' I'm looking at this right now and it's really a black darkness. And I'm hoping that there's going to be sun coming up and it'll show us that we can work more efficiently," says Mayor Spelsberg.

If the sun comes up on solar panels on the municipal building, Spelsberg says it would mean cheaper energy bills for the city.

"I am very interested in any kind of cost saving we could find for the city. And of course, going green is very important to all of us," says Spelsberg.

The Lambs say they are working to make the Lewis County Concerned Citizens a non-profit organization to make getting grants and going green easier.

They say they will be meeting with Spelsberg in the next couple of weeks to talk more about the project.

The city of Weston met with the IRS Wednesday, but 12 News is still waiting to hear the details of that meeting.
