PLEASANT VALLEY -- The Federal Aviation Administration has begun an investigation into a small plane crash Sunday in Marion County.
A plane crash at the Fairmont Municipal Airport injured one person Sunday afternoon.
Rescue crews were called out to Airport Road in Pleasant Valley around 4:00.
Crews say one male was on board the small plane when it went down on the north end of the runway.
Airport Officials say the pilot of the small aircraft made regular flights in and out of the Fairmont Municipal Airport.
They say, he landed his small aircraft successfully around 11:00 Sunday morning and was trying to depart the airport again in the afternoon, when the small plane crashed. It went down in a deep ditch next to the runway.
Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration were on scene Monday morning, beginning an official investigation.
Right now, they have not released any details on what caused the plane to crash.
The authorities say the pilot had already gotten out of the airplane and was sitting next to it, when they arrived. He was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital, the injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
The Environmental Protection Agency and the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources will also investigate the crash site to determine if there was any evironmental impact caused by a fuel spill at the scene.
Fire Departments from Pleasant Valley, Boothsville, Monongah, Winfield District, the Marion County Sheriff's Department and Marion County EMS all responded.
