Jim Snider has been in Fairmont for a little more than a year.

FAIRMONT -- The city of Fairmont might be searching for a new city manager soon.

Jim Snider took the city manager position in Fairmont in April 2008.

City officials say Snider is one of two finalists for a city administrator position in his hometown of Canton, Illinois.

City officials say Snider told them he should know whether he got the job within the next week.

Mayor Matt Delligatti says he cannot blame Snider for wanting to return to his roots.

"When you have those types of career opportunities to return to your hometown and take a similar position, I really respect that and understand that. And if he does get the job, from there we have a great staff, good working council, that will be able to move forward," said Delligatti.

Fairmont City Council will meet at 7:00, Tuesday night and Delligatti says the council may discuss Snider's situation in an executive session.

City Planner Ray Rogers is acting as Interim City Manager while Snider is out of town interviewing.
