FAIRMONT -- Marion County got the best of both worlds Saturday night, country music and fireworks.

Palatine Park was filled with thousands of people for the "Country Fried Fourth of July".

Country music star Billy Ray Cyrus performed hit songs including a song from the "Hannah Montana" Movie.

Cyrus is the father of Disney sensation Miley Cyrus.

The concert was also broadcast live on "Froggy" radio, which sponsored the event.

Local favorites Nina Sharp and the Davisson Brothers Band also performed.

The night ended with a fireworks display.

Not that I would have attended anyway, but was this event even advertised or promoted? I read the Fairmont Times online everyday, and usually buy the Sunday edition. I buy the Dominion Post everyday. I read this website several times a day.. I don't remember seeing anything promoting this event. I'm new to the Fairmont area; I moved here from Mgtn in January. But it seems that if they want to get hings moving here, maybe they need to get the word out. Like I said, maybe they did and I missed it. I wouldn't have wasted my time or money on a washed up Cyrus anyway.

To those bashing Fairmont....we left Fmt. in 1991 and just returned again in 2007. It was a great decision. My kids ended up being greatly influenced by the life in big cities, to the negative. School system was really poor. They got a much better education here. They had to share books and extremely expensive school supplies were needed in FL. We are blessed in this state. Crime is so much higher in FL. Read statistics. This area is way down on the list. We came back for the safety of our special needs adult daughter. She is getting excellent services here. There are 10 year waiting lists in other states (and FL). We are extremely glad we made this move back. This really is a great place to raise a family. I totally disagree with you people. Yes, go visit other places but I choose to live here.

I lived in WV my whole life, got out of there 7 yrs ago and life has never been better. It used to be a place that I wanted to raise my kids but every year it just keeps getting worse. Fairmont and Clarksburg used to be nice little towns but they are nothing more than drug infested trash holes now. I can't believe how they gone down hill. All of the nice neighborhoods in both of these places look like slums. It most certainly is not a place that I would want to raise children in. It is nice that they put the park in to have concerts and other events but, unfortunately it will be over run with crack dealers and child molesters. I read the newspaper and watch the news online every day and can't believe what I see. It is a true shame. But, I still love my home state and my mountaineers!!!!!!!

Also toEWWWWWWWWWWWWW. I personally do not care for country music, Billy Ray Cyrus, or "Hannah Montana", but that has nothing to do with Fairmont. You can't be "stuck here" unless you allow yourself to be, this is America. You are absolutely free to leave. I came to Fairmont 20 years ago to attend college and I stayed. I'm originally from NJ, and as the saying goes-"I wasn't born here, but I got here as fast as I could". Try living anywhere else.

Ewwwwwwww If you dont like Fairmont..Move. I moved to Florida and let me tell you people here gripe. Your kind of people-unhappy and unable and willing to do anything to make yourself happy-are found everywhere. I am looking forward to moving back this fall as I have been here for 5 years. If you find yourself in another state-great your attutude will not be missed. A wise man once said "People are about as happy as they make up thier mind to be". Get a new perspective, you live in a great, beautiful state will friendly people and a great history. perfect-no, no place is, as i have learned.

I am so tired of hearing how bad Fairmont is. If Fairmont is such a "crap hole of a town" then leave! I love this small town. I can raise my family here & enjoy days like yesterday with my children & grandchildren. I am thrilled that the city & county put together a day for all of Marion County to enjoy. I am grateful to all the people that helped to pull it off. What a fun time the people of Marion County were able to relax & enjoy. To those who are never happy & nothing is ever good enough I say either get over it or leave. If things are so much better other places, then for goodness sake, go there & quite complaining.

Star??? more like has been... only here to promote his daughters movie. Of course for Fairmont I guess this is something to get anyone with any name to come to our crap hole of a town. If people here had money and taste we would all move and leave this place to be absorbed into the river or by other towns that actually grow and have things to do.
