19 teams from West Virginia entered the weekend with dreams of advancing in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Tournament.
Only one accomplished that goal.
The U-12 Girls 8-on-8 West Virginia Chaos polished off pool play on Sunday, toting a 2-0-1 record through three games.
A mark that was good enough to propel them into the semifinal round, a place where only a small handful of Mountain State squads have ever gone before.
The Chaos are believed to be only the 5th West Virginia team to ever make the final four in their age group.
Unfortunately, they would advance no further.
The Empire-United girls from Syracuse stopped the Chaos in their tracks, 4-0 early Monday morning at the YMCA Kennedy Center Complex.
Eva Gordon and Ore-Oluwa Akinpelu each tallied two goals for the United in victory, ending the Chaos's Cinderella story.
Despite the shortcoming, the girls from Charleston were still all smiles afterwards.
Head Coach Ashleigh Woods said she couldn't be any prouder of the girls and it was a major accomplishment just to make it as far as they did.
