PHILIPPI -- People in Barbour County are raising money to help make improvements at Philip Barbour High School.

Carmen's Cooky Cookout was held Saturday afternoon to benefit the Philip-Barbour High School Foundation.

The cookout featured a silent auction, yard sale, and tickets to purchase bleacher seats, and souvenir horseshoes.

The foundation is trying to raise 30-thousand dollars to improve the school building, help with computer and science maintenance, and scholarships.

More fundraisers are planned later this summer.

The current bleachers are in sad, sad shape, and MUST be replaced. There is no point in raising money to replace the scoreboard and roof that insurance will most likely take care of. PB Sports are doing fine...and will probably do much better with an athletic complex they can feel confident about. We have many great teachers at PB. My own children have gone there...and as my daughter says, "If you want an education, you can get it at PB." A large part of the problem is "overall morale". School spirit must be pumped up...then there will be a ripple effect. We are doing the best we can for our children here in Barbour County...The Foundation just wants to give them a facility they can really enjoy. Our athletes deserve that.

I believe that PB is in need of bettering the athletic complex and we as a community should help, but I also feel the BOE should have already had the scoreboard fixed and the roof that is leaking??????

FYI: Apparently the BOE has finally decided to have the roof repaired..ONE YR later..but have not heard anything about the score board..since they were both damaged in the same storm you would think the insurance would cover both..apparently NOT..anyone with information on this I would love to know..

Instead of raising money for bleachers that are in place, maybe not the best but why don't you raise the money to put up a new scoreboard? or have the roof put back on... These two items have been blown down since last year.

Uh this is to PB SPORTS..what a ridiculous comment..The football team made it to the state play offs last year. The basketball team also went to States, Volleyball as well. Track team did amazing coming in 2nd as well as individual state champs, We had a repeat state champ in wrestling as well as our tennis team gong to states..oh yes..the sports are truly terrible at PB...The athletic complex is in need of a major over haul and I think could be an amazing facility in the future..GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE PB ATHLETES THIS COMING SCHOOL YEAR..(and if I overlooked any other athletes I am sorry)... LETS GOOOOO COLTS!!!!!

PB SPORTS have been terrible for years. Why spend all that money on sports when you should be spending it on the students education. Also i believe that they should fire about 30 to 40 percent of all teachers and get new ones that really want to teach and are there for the kids and not for a pay check they really dont deserve. PB only has a select few that are really there to teach. So instead of worrying about sports maybe we should worry more about our kids education. Also think about this how many people go on from PB to play professional sports.

Just to clarify..then goal is $30,000 initially to springboard larger fundraising campaigns. Also...the funds are for the athletic complex, NOT the school building!
