MORGANTOWN -- A group in Monongalia County is still waiting for funding they were promised by the state of West Virginia.
The Friends of Deckers Creek are working to clean up acid drainage from the Richard Mine.
To help them do so, they were promised millions of dollars from the state.
The creek drains into the Monongahela River in Morgantown.
County Commissioners sent a letter to Governor Joe Manchin supporting the group's efforts, saying the project's success will be the best example of federal, state, and local partners working together to turn an economic liability into an asset.
"It's an issue of cleaning up the creek to make it friendly to the city of Morgantown- to establish a fishery down there. It's economic development really in our county, so we'd like to see it cleaned up," said Commissioner Bob Bell.
Commissioners voted to approve and send the letter to Governor Manchin.
