FAIRMONT -- The Fairmont Community is collecting toys to distribute to needy children this Christmas.
The Council of Churches is working with the Times WV and the Marion County Commission to make sure every child has a happy holiday season.
It's collecting new, or gently used, toys at the Marion County courthouse.
On Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, organizers will let families pick out toys for their children this Christmas.
"We'll be out here on Black Friday from 8 until 2 so needy kids can come through and pick out toys. They'll be new toys or previously loved toys, everything will be in good shape," said commissioner Butch Tennant.
The Black Friday give-a-way will be at the Marion County election center.
Two of the local high schools are also getting in the holiday spirit and collecting toys for the charity at this week's East/West football game.
The game is one of the biggest rivalries in the area.
Usually it's just the football players who fight it out on the field for bragging rights. But this year the whole community can get involved.
The principals at Fairmont Senior and East Fairmont have a friendly wager on the game: they're asking students and fans to donate toys.
The losing principal, the one with the fewest toys at the end of the game, will have to wear the other school's jersey for a day.
"The East/West Game is one of the biggest of the season! The week leading up to it is full of spirit getting everyone excited," said senior Paris Winfrey, a EFHS Football Player.
School officials say they are hoping to fill two school buses full of toys at Friday night's game.
