MORGANTOWN -- Some women went shopping in Monongalia County Wednesday night, but not at the store.

They went to Lakeview Resort for a Fashion Swap Party because "one man's trash is another man's treasure."

The Monongalia County Habitat for Humanity Restore held the event where it says "Fashion Swapping is the New Shopping."

Close to 100 women went through their closets and found clothes, shoes and accessories that they don't plan to wear any longer.

It's Mon County's Habit for Humanity's plan to raise awareness about keeping stuff out of the landfills.

"We're promoting recycling and reusing," Habitat for Humanity's Executive Director Tracy Thorn said.

"Swap parties are really big in Australia and they do it in New York and L.A.," he said.

Each woman received tickets in exchange for her items.

"I brought in a Coach purse and six or seven shirts and ended up getting a brand new dress and never before worn shoes," shopper Natalie Duffield said, "Some really nice stuff and it's for a great cause."

Just like shopping at the store, not everything fit. And some people had better luck than others.

"I wasn't expecting to find either of the great finds that I found," said Duffield.

"I was just coming to support a great cause and ended up getting some great clothes in the process," she said.

And the price can't compare to anyplace else, Thorn said.

"Our economy is down and we all know it," she said. "And here's a perfect way for people to exchange clothes and reuse their clothes and get new clothes out of it."

This the first time Habitat for Humanity has held the event.

Organizers say they were pleasantly surprised by the turnout and plan to make the Swap Party an annual event.
