MORGANTOWN -- West Virginia University and Sunnyside Up are working together to raise money for the United Way.

They held the Sunnyside Hoop Shoot between the Summit and Honors College residence halls Monday afternoon. Anyone could take three shots for a $1 donation.

It's the first time Sunnyside Up has joined the United Way campaign.

"We also wanted to prove that we could do a nice event in Sunnyside without any of the negative things that are sometimes associated," said Jim Hunt, the executive director of Sunnyside Up, "so our goal has kind of been accomplished because people have enjoyed themsleves."

Sunnyside Up worked with the Student Government Association and the Office of Student Life.

Two baskets earned students a free Sunnyside Up t-shirt and a chance to win a basketball signed by WVU basketball coach Bob Huggins.

They plan to hold another charity event in Sunnyside this spring.
