MORGANTOWN -- The First LEGO League held a scrimmage at WVU's Brooks Hall on Saturday.
The league is a collection of kids and area middle schoolers in the North Central West Virginia area.
Fourteen teams are competing to advance to the state championships in two weeks.
"This is to get the kids used to judging, get that into their psyche before they go to the state tournament," said Earl Scime.
Earl Scime is no stranger to success with robotics. He's taken three different first Lego League teams to world championships.
The preparation begins even earlier than Saturday's scrimmage
"You have from early September, until State tournament to build the robot," said Scime
The robotic vehicles movements are all pre-programmed by a computer.
And it's learning the computer programs and robotics, that give these kids a leg up and prepare them for the future "It's fun and when I grow up I want to work in Robotics so its great experience for me to start and base my career," said Stephen Woernar.
The First LEGO league is sponsored by Mountaineer Area Robotics, a collection of high schoolers competing in robotics.
