This week, we're bringing you the dessert edition of our Restaurant Road Trip. Little Dippers Ice Cream Parlor is a new sweet-treat getaway that's serving up hand dipped ice-cream, and home baked goods for people of all ages. "We're here at least five out of seven days a week. I have three small children and they want to come every day," said customer Jennifer Malnick. Owner Janet Ammons combined her love of ice cream and baking and opened Little Dippers in the beginning of August. She says the beach themed eatery was inspired by her grandchildren. "We had pictures taken while we were there of the grandchildren as we were entering into the ocean and I had the photos of them with their backs showing. I thought, well, that's a good name, 'little Dippers'. They're getting ready to dip into the ocean, plus they love dipping into the ice cream," she said. Customers say the inside makes you feel like you're on a summer vacation. "it just makes you feel good when you walk in. You kind of associate ice cream with the beach and summertime so I think it was nice," said Malnick. Little Dippers features 24 flavors of Hershey's Ice Cream. All of the flavors are labeled with fun names like Cookie Doughlicious and Cappuccino Crunch. Kurtis Helgeson says there's one flavor he can't resist. "The butter pecan because I just grew up on butter pecan and I really like it," he said. Ammons says customers are surprised by the variety of ice cream flavors. "The children seem to love the birthday cake, the plato, cookie doughlicious, there's just a lot of favorites. I think people are surprised because we do have so many to offer," she said. Little Dippers also serves up a menu of childhood favorites like banana splits, root beer floats, hot fudge cake, and a case filled with old school candies, like the Sky Bar. Helgeson says the candies make him feel like a kid again. "Yes it does, the candy cigarettes do and the vanilla cones, the candy cones," he said. Malnick says it's a great place to bring your family and enjoy summertime treats, year-round. "Give it a try because there's something for anybody. There's several choices and as long as you're not diet conscience, you should be just fine," she said. I decided to try the decadent banana split, and there was nothing left in my bowl after I was finished with it. Little Dippers is located at 308 W. Main St. in Fairview, Marion County. Its hours are Mon.-Fri. from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. It's open on Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. You can call Little Dippers at (304) 449-2663.
