A-B Women Learn NCAA Fate

Posted: Updated:

It's been a whirlwind couple of days for the Alderson-Broaddus women's soccer team.

The Lady Battlers won their first-even WVIAC championship on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Davis & Elkins. A-B new that the win would get them an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament. The team didn't know that it would end up being the only WVIAC squad to play in the NCAA tournament; the only team from all 20 WVIAC soccer programs.

A-B's NCAA fate was announced Monday night. The Lady Battlers go into the tournament as a No. 6 seed. They face No. 3 seeded Slippery Rock in the first round.

WVIAC Champion A-B has an 11-6-3 record compared to Slipper Rock's 14-4-2. The PSAC member school is 10-2-2 in the league and lost 4-0 to Kutztown in the semifinals of the conference tournament.

The two teams meet Friday, Nov. 11 for the opening game. The match will be played at Keystone Field in Kutztown (Pa.).
