HSFB Playoff Preview: Hurricane at Elkins

ELKINS -

"If you look at us from a program standpoint or when we come out on the field, I don't know if we necessarily look like a team that should be in the state playoffs, but there's no "I's" on our team and that's a great thing about these kids," Elkins head coach Greg Hott said.

After dropping their first game of the season to East Fairmont the feeling of 'Here we go again,' quickly was squashed as the team continued to work on a new offense and a new mind set, something that a losing program needed to turn things around.

"Our kids never gave up even when times would get tight or taught, they kept right on, they never stopped, they always have a positive attitude and that's the greatest aspect of this team," Hott added.

As for the Tigers opponent, the Hurricane Redskins, they finished the season on a sour note, dropping their last two contests. But the Elkins defense will have to be ready as this team has averaged just about 28 points per game, while a stingy defense has only allowed 17.

"We try to stop the other team from scoring and we try to put the ball into the end zone. We really don't have a, I mean I guess you could say we're an I-formation but we'll run double-doubles, trips, and spread and we bring a lot of formations. That's one thing that everybody says that we 'Out-formation you to death,' but defensively we try to play a four-man front and pride ourselves on just getting to the football and being aggressive at the point of attack," Hurricane head coach Willis May said.

"The fact that they run the spread concerns me a little because I don't know how our kids are going to handle that but we have played spread teams of course so it won't be unfamiliar to us but still, I'd like to be able to play on grass but we're playing on turf, but the this is, we're in the state playoffs and we're going to play, and give them a heck of a game," Hott added.
