WVIAC Spotlight: D&E Men's Soccer

The Davis & Elkins men's soccer team is preparing to make a post season run. The Senators only lost one game in the entire month of October and are hoping their winning ways carry over into November. While D&E isn't a big money program, these guys are prepared to show that humble beginnings combined with determination and talent can go a long way.

Tucked away behind acres of farm land, just beyond Elkins' city limits, a couple of horses have had a view of a very good soccer team. While the college is putting the finishing touches on a new practice and game facility for next season, this plot of farm land has been training the Senators on how to adapt to challenges and face adversity.

"Having to not be able to practice on campus and everything, how we've bounced around a little bit on our practice fields and game fields our guys have done a good job with handling that and they've kept their heads and focused on the task at hand, which is to be successful," Head Men's Soccer Coach Aaron Bisoff said.

"We have our laughs about the field and where we practice but we've gotten past it and we just come out and get done what we need to get done at practice," senior Timothy Bugge said.

The Senators finished fourth in the conference and have been making their way up the national rankings. The team always knew they were talented, but if not for a disappointing loss to Wheeling Jesuit back in September, their fantastic eight-win October, may have never happened.

"Our guys got taught a little bit of a lesson, that this is not going to be as easy as we think it is and we're going to have to come play hard every single game and that was the turning point in our season, where our guys finally got it," Coach Bisoff added.

While a conference tournament championship doesn't automatically vault them into the national tournament, winning it would put D&E in position to prove what those horses at the farm already know. The Senators, no matter where they play, are a great soccer team.

"We just have to make sure that our intensity and energy level is 100 percent right from the beginning and we play the style of soccer that we play so that will be the key to the game, coming out hard and not just matching their intensity but taking it to the next level," Bugge added.
