MVB Athlete of the Week: Grafton's Ivy Bartlett

GRAFTON -

Wayne is a bona fide state contender, but so too are the Grafton Bearcats. Each week this season they've used big runs to break open games. Many of those runs are due to this weeks MVB Athlete of the Week, Grafton's Ivy Bartlett.

"So far he has the ability to make people miss and I think the biggest improvement in Ivy is, you've seen the speed and the ability to take the ball the distance but I think his leadership, Ivy's become a really good leader for us, he's become an everyday and that's the thing we talk about here, we don't want guys that only perform on Fridays, we want guys that perform all week," head coach Mark Yoho said.

Bartlett has the rare ability to hit a home run every time he touches the ball, and at the quarterback position, that's every play. He's rushed for over 1,100 yards and loves that feeling of knowing when a big play is available.

"Oh my, especially if an end crashes (down), it's gone. It's just right then and there, instantly pull and go, and just don't stop running. Just get to the end zone. That's what's always going through my head, get to the end zone, get to the end zone, don't stop running, don't stop running," Bartlett said.

Bartlett and the slew of Bearcat backs hope to keep churning the yards out this weekend against Wayne and throughout the playoffs, but Bartlett knows in order to do that, the boys up front have to keep doing what they've been doing, and he owes all of his success to them.

"I give my line all the props, all of it. Because if it wasn't for them we wouldn't be making plays like that. If they don't pick up their blocks in practice as they are right now, all of it goes to the lineman, our coaches preach that to us because they don't get their names in the paper, or this, or that. But that's where it goes, I tell them, 'you guys keep blocking, keep it up and we're going to score,' that's what I keep telling them," Bartlett added.
