Lots of coaching changes have been announced at Wesleyan over the past months. That includes the addition of Jim Boone as the head of the men's basketball program.
Coach Boone will be leading a Bobcat squad picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll. That's even more motivation for Boone's motto coming into the season, "30 Days to a Championship." Coach Boone explained that he felt the first 30 days of the program would be crucial and would definitely be the first step to a winning program.
It's been a whirlwind for Coach Boone. He arrived at Wesleyan on August 15, a week before his players.
Boone explained that his system is based on defense, hard work and discipline. He has a good nucleus of returning players. Those coming back include Preston High native T. J. Thompson. Coach Boone is also excited about players he think will have in impact immediately, including three transfers he brought in and a true freshman. That freshman is former Morgantown Mohigan Taylor Price.
Wesleyan still has a few dynamic players from last year's team to work with. Reggie Chambers, Dion Mathis and Colby Wohlleb were all impact players for the Bobcats last season.
Coach Boon said practice has been good and new NCAA rules allowing more team practices have helped. However, the Bobcats are ready to play.
"Without question my excitement level and my anxiety level are both at 10," exclaimed Jim Boone. "You're excited, can't wait to get started but understand we have so much to do and so little time to do it. I think every coach would tell you the same thing. I wish I had two more weeks. We certainly wish we had two more weeks but we're ready. It's time to play. It's time to go out and put the uniform on and play against another team."
WVWC opens up the season on Nov. 16 at WVIAC foe Seton Hill.
