One of the several coaching changes announced at Wesleyan in the past few months was the hiring of Jackie DeVane as the new Head Women's Basketball Coach.
DeVane will be leading a Lady Bobcat team that is picked to finish third in the WVIAC from the preseason coaches poll. Last year, WVWC was picked first as league coaches believed the ‘Cats would repeat as regular season champs.
Coach DeVane has brought in a few players of her own including Brittany Williams and Brittany Maxey. Coach has also been impressed with the way seasoned veterans Lydia Bridenbaugh, Jamie Kauffman, and Danae Hill have meshed with her new system.
Coach DeVane admitted her team is at about a 5 out of 10 right now, but that's to be expected with the situation. The offense is completely different. It's much more up tempo. Coach DeVane likes to run the ball.
The Wesleyan women began the season over the weekend and now have one win and one loss.
Coach DeVane said she has no qualms about making the jump from Division I to D-II, she knows she'll have her work cut out for her in the WVIAC.
"Oh I'm very excited to play in this conference. This is great," said Jackie DeVane. "I know that everybody talks about me coming from Division I to Division II but this is a great, top Division II conference. This is not a slouch conference where you're just coming in and it's not very good teams. Everybody in this conference can play and everybody will give you a battle every night. So we have to be ready to play every day, every night."
