It's been an interesting off season for the Glenville State men's basketball team, interesting, because the Pioneers are suddenly getting lots of attention, for the coaching staff. Before the 2011-2012 season began, GSC Head Coach Stephen Dye hired former WVU players Rob Summers and Joe Mazzulla. Coach Dye explained that establishing a good staff will bring in good recruits. Dye hinted that it's working so far.

When it comes to the team, the Pioneers must replace leading scorer Justin Caldwell. Actually, GSC must replace everyone except four returning players. Glenville boasts 13 newcomers and 13 seems to be the magic number this year as that's where the Pioneers were picked to finish in the preseason coaches' poll.

"I think that's going to be a good thing for us. They picked us 13th. We have 13 news guys coming in here. None of them believe that's where we should be. Now, it's just our job to go out and prove that," said Coach Dye about his team's attitude this season.

A few transfers will help get things started but Dye also said he has a couple of freshman on his squad that he thinks will surprise people. Coach admitted that it's hard to teach 13 new players his system instead of having several veterans to help on the court but that doesn't mean Glenville won't put up a fight every game.
