WVIAC Basketball Preview: A-B Women

PHILIPPI -

If any local WVIAC basketball team is looking for a turn around season, it's the Alderson-Broaddus women. The Lady Battlers won just two games last season.

Head Coach Josh Allen said that those loses came with players in spots they're not used to, but were needed at.

That team was young, two out of the three top scorers were just sophomores and four starters are back on the court this year. Two names to watch out for are Zipporah Tidwell and Morgantown alum Amanda Peoples.

A-B now has two junior college transfers and Coach Allen said the Lady Battlers also have three guards that will play key minutes to help make A-B a perimeter team.

It's all about execution for A-B and the team is already better than it was last season. There is a lingering confidence issue stemming from last year's record and the Lady Battlers were picked to finish 14th in the conference out of 15 teams, but they just don't care about that.

"I don't even look at it to be honest," said Coach Allen. "Sometimes I have my assistant coaches do it. I had my athletic trainer do it. It does mean a lot to the girls to give them a little bit of push. To see that this is what people think of you guys. Now, it's your time to go out and prove them wrong. It give them a little bit of fire, put it on the bulletin board type of deal."
