What started as a class project in Parkersburg turned into a big event this weekend in Ritchie County. Public relations students at WVU-Parkersburg spent last semester making videos to promote some of the restaurants in the county, and this time they decided to take it a step further.

"And in the course of doing that, we realized that these restaurants have such great food and they just have these wonderful environments, and that people don't know about them, so this semester, with the PR class, instead of a video class, we decided to help promote the great restaurants and all of their appetizing foods," said Torie Jackson, an instructor at WVU Parkersburg.

It's a nice break for the businesses too. Andrea Jackson, who runs the Crossroads Cafe, it's a good chance to get the community together and highlight the differences between each business.

"Restaurants of course are competition, but most of us do a little bit of something different, so it's nice to kind of be together and see what everybody else is doing and just be in the same spot and be friends," said Jackson.

These restaurants gain more than just friendship. These events don't just boost each individual restaurant's business, they also have an effect on the county that supports them.

"Well, local businesses are very important to the economy, because local workers live here themselves, and you know that almost every dollar you spend here stays in the community," said Jackson.
