Mohigans Fall in Third Round to Martinsburg 38-14

MARTINSBURG -

If any team in the state has another teams number, it's got to be Martinsburg owning Morgantown. For the fourth straight playoff appearance and fifth time in as many tries, the Bulldogs (13-0) defeated the Mohigans (10-3) in the semi-finals of the AAA state playoffs 38-14 Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs scored on their first possession to take a 7-0 lead, but Morgantown responded by easily moving down the field. However, on second and goal, Chazzy Thomas fumbled the handoff and Martinsburg recovered leaving the Mohigans scoreless.

Morgantown's defense kept the Bulldogs in check with a bend-but-don't-break first half, only down 10-0 at halftime, but in the second half they failed to get their defense off the field during key downs.

The Bulldogs continually converted tough third downs, and also scored on a 4th-and-11 in the third quarter.

Kevin Minehart sparked the Mohigans in the third quarter, returning a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, however the Bulldogs offense was just too much, totaling 565 total yards on the afternoon.

The Bulldogs move on to play second-seeded George Washington in the AAA title game hoping to repeat as state champions next Saturday in Wheeling.
