It's Tuesday and time to try out another product you've seen advertised on TV.
This week's item involves a sharp blade and vegetables; we're trying the Slice-O-Matic.
The product claims to be an easier and simpler way to slice and dice your fruits and veggies than using a knife.
The Slice-O-Matic comes pre-assembled. The only thing I had to do was add the food chute and it was ready to go.
I decided to try the cucumber first.
The directions said to gently push the easy glide handle down to begin slicing; do not hold or push the cucumber down.
I sliced half of the cucumber and opened the catch container to see if it worked.
There was a dozen or so sliced cucumber pieces in the container. All of the slices were pretty consistent in size.
Next, I tried a medium sized onion. The onion was too big to fit into the food chute so I cut it into four pieces.
The Slice-O-Matic claims to lessen the mess and smell of chopping an onion, but it was still pretty smelly.
It did slice the onion, though, in less than 60 seconds.
The Slice-O-Matic also comes with a julienne blade, which I tried on a medium sized potato.
I had the same problem fitting the potato into the food chute so I had to slice the potato into a size that would fit.
I also had to apply more pressure to julienne the potato, but the Slice-O-Matic did work. I ended up with ‘French fry like' pieces when I opened the catch container.
I also tried to slice an apple, too.
Again, I ran into the same problem as the other items and the apple was too big to fit into the food chute. I had to slice it into four pieces, just like the onion.
My review:
I give this product 3 out of 5 stars.
The cucumber was the only item that truly worked well. The onion, apple, and potato had to be cut before placing into the food chute because they were too big.
The product worked in the sense that it sliced the food but it wasn't an easy process to do.
I think I could have chopped the items with a knife in the same amount of time or less.
However, this product could be useful for people with arthritis or those who have trouble using a knife.
But, the product isn't for me.
