It Takes More Than Two-To-Tango, Or Something Like That

Posted: Updated:

For the first year in recent memory, the North Marion Huskies aren't the Kryptonite-less force of the AAA world due to graduation of a phenomenal stretch of talent. Not to say the Huskies have no chance this season for the four-peat, but this season, the Bridgeport Indians are in prime shape for a solid run.

The Lady Indians enter the 2011-2012 with high expectations not only from within, but from the outside world as well. They were pegged the second-best AAA team in the state, a billing by the Associated Press.

They lose two fantastic seniors in Kristy Akers and Kelsey Mullins (both playing for WVIAC teams this fall) but while many programs made fade away when losing talent like this, Bridgeport won't be rebuilding, they'll simply be reloading.

With seven players returning with varsity experience, the Indians are deep and talented. But what makes this squad even more of a threat is their team chemistry.

"I've never had a group closer that this chemistry wise," head coach Dave Marshall exclaimed.

After spending spring break getting over their state tournament loss to eventual champion North Marion, there was no more time to waste for this team. Coach Marshall told me that since that loss, these girls have played about 50 games with various AAU teams (many sport multiple teammates per roster), and have literally grown up playing the game together, as far back as the fourth or fifth grade.

To sum this up for you, the Bridgeport Indians should be a lock for the state tournament. They should beat teams by double-digits on a nightly basis. They should grow together even further on their way to a memorable season. That's just my take on things, but one thing for sure; this team will be fun to watch on a nightly basis, but that's Just-In Case You Were Wondering.
