PHILIPPI -

A Philippi food pantry said this year hasn't been as successful as years before.

Heart and Hand said there are more families in need this year and donations are down.

It said supporters donated roughly three thousand items last month down from nearly six thousand in November 2010.

As for families that need help Heart and Hand said it saw 120 new families last year, compared to 146 new families so far this year.

"The donations are down and there is more need," said Emergency Services Coordinator at Heart and Hand Linda McCarty.  "We have more coming in than we did last year. Every year that goes up to a certain extent. But I think we've had about a twenty percent increase this year."
