Three standout WVIAC football players continue to receive honors months after the season has ended. The players represent the conference on the 2011 Daktronics All-America Football Team.
West Virginia Wesleyan's Jonas Celian and Shepherd's Elijah Davis both earned the First-Team Defense accolade.
Celian is a First-Team All-WVIAC and First-Team All-Region pick. In his senior year, he helped Wesleyan climb to the No. 11 position in the Division II ranks. Statistically he grabbed 67 tackles, 21 were for a loss. Celian also recorded 12 sacks, four fumble recoveries and an interception.
Davis led Shepherd as a defensive powerhouse. In the 2011 season he grabbed six interceptions, four were returned for touchdowns, establishing a NCAA Division II record. Davis totaled 283 interception return yards on the year, a Shepherd single-season record. He earned First-Team All-WVIAC honors.
Surprisingly, WVWC star quarterback Adam Neugebauer landed on the Second-Team Offense. Neugebauer had a stellar senior year with the Bobcats and finished the season leading all of NCAA Division II football in several categories. Neugebauer is the WVIAC Offensive Player of the Year as well as the Super Region 1 Offensive Player of the Year. The Pittsburgh native is also a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy. Neugebauer passed for 4,111 yards, going 353-521 in 2011, scoring 40 touchdowns. He passed for more than 300 yards in all 11 games in his final season at Wesleyan.
