A-Much-Too-Early-Look At the 2012 Girls State Champions

Posted: Updated:

2012 will be here by the time most of you finish reading this. The transition from football to basketball was much smoother this year and plenty of local teams are picking up right where they left off. Our area has some of the better basketball teams in the state yet again and I expect that a few of our teams could challenge for state titles come March. Here's a much to early look at who could cut down the nets in Charleston.

Girls Basketball AAA

1. Fairmont Senior

-Katie Nunan is one of the most talented players in the state. She's big, smart and can hurt you from all over the floor. She has a solid supporting cast who can score in bunches and the team plays a very up-tempo game that causes other teams to crumble under the pressure.

Title Chances: 80%

2. University

-The Hawks have a very good back court led by sophomore Mariah Callen. As the team continues to gel they should find a consistent threat inside. Some players are emerging.

Title Chances: 50%

3. Bridgeport

-Miki Glen is a fearless guard who can lead this team to the title IF she starts to realize she doesn't have to do it herself. She has a deep and experienced group right along side her and if they continue to improve their 3-point shot, watch out.

Title Chances: 65%

Girls Basketball AA

1. Lincoln

-Having every starter back always gives you confidence that your team can put it all together. Having all your starters back after a very promising team didn't even come out of the section, gives you the motivation needed not take anything for granted. Rob Hawkins has a hungry group that will outrun every team they play this season.

Title Chances: 45%

Girls Basketball A

1. Trinity

-So what if the Warriors lost a 1,000 point scorer from last seasons team? They reloaded with another star in the making with Jackie Halapy. The Warriors will take their losses and use them as learning tools as they continue to march towards March.
