A Look Back At 2011

Posted: Updated:
As I look back at the year that was I can't help but think about what a fantastic year we've had in sports right here in our own backyard.

2011 produced TEN different state championship teams from all over the place.

From North Marion's Girls Basketball three-peat to the Doddridge County Boys track team state championship, our area has let the rest of the state know, state championships run through North Central West Virginia.

Those 10 champions deserve one last shout out for their amazing accomplishments.

Going into the history books along with the Huskies is the Morgantown girls swim team, the Ritchie County softball team, as well as the Rebel golf team, Philip Barbour fielded the states best cross country team.

Clay-Battelle won yet another state championship in Cheerleading. The Morgantown girls took the AAA Girls soccer title, while the Grafton Lady Bearcats won the AA title. Buckhannon-Upshur won the girls track title, and finally Doddridge County won the boys track championship.

As I turn the page to 2012, I look back at some of my favorite memories from the year as well. North Central West Virginia has given me some great opportunities and I'm proud to share my experiences with you on a daily basis.

I have to say a highlight of the year was the trip to Parris Island to learn more about marine recruit training from an athletic standpoint. Seeing first hand the transformation that average citizens go through to become the nations most athletic force changed my perception on our armed forces.

Covering Trinity in the boys state championship game may bring back some sore memories for those young men, but it's a game I won't soon forget. The Warriors had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but the shot fell short giving Madonna the win. The emotion before, during and after that game were sport at its finest.

There are plenty more memories that were made in 2011 and I want to hear what yours were. Head over to my facebook page and comment on what your favorite memories of the year.

We here in the 12 SportsZone love bringing you as much action and stories as we can, so here's to brighter days in 2012.

Adios from 2011 and Have yourself a very happy new year!
