"I feel like it's a part of my role on the team is to be a scorer," Fairmont State Point Guard Kaitlin Snyder said. "Not just that, but to lead the team as well. I've been here three years and I've started for three years. I feel like if I don't do well on the court then I'm just letting my team down."
It's that kind of mentality that has lifted Fairmont State's Kaitlin Snyder into a class all by herself. Snyder leads the WVIAC in scoring with more than 22 points per game. The Charleston native is also shooting a scorching 50 percent from the field. But Kaitlin is a firm believer that there is no 'I' in team.
"I just try to play really hard every game and I try to lead by example on the court, as well as off the court. But on the court as well. So I just want my teammates to follow me and just continue to play hard and win," Snyder said.
Winning has been a consistent part of the formula while Snyder has been at Fairmont State. The Falcons are 7-3 and winners of six out of their last seven games. If you ask Kaitlin, confidence breeds success.
"I feel like if you don't play with a lot of confidence then you aren't going to play into your capability. If you feel like you're not going to have a good game then you aren't going to have a good game. So going into every game, having a positive attitude, knowing that you're well prepared, that you've practiced hard throughout the whole week, that you've prepared yourself well, that your coaches prepared yourself well, then it's only going to lead into good things," Snyder said.
Lucky for the Falcons, she's only a junior.
