MORGANTOWN -
There have been plenty of basketball tournaments that have come to the Morgantown area showcasing local high school talent and talent from all around the country but this is the first year for the 2012 Remember The Miners Mountaineer Showcase at University High School.
Two local teams, Morgantown and University will be taking on some of the best talent from around the country on Saturday.
"If you look at it, we have over 25 All-Americans, 51 D-I prospects, that's 11 teams and a couple of them are from West Virginia, so that's pretty heavy on the other side. I'm pretty confident I brought in the right kids so they can see (the area), experience our hospitality and let our West Virginia kids play against them," tournament director Cliff Sutherland said.
University head coach Paul Ingle has helped put this event together, and is excited to see the quality players that come to the event and to see how his team stacks up.
"It's been a process getting here, but we've got just terrific talent and different, terrific teams from around the area and nationally. My kids are really excited to be apart of it this year," Ingle stated. "I told my kids to have fun, stay positive. Make sure you hustle it out, defense to offense just to see where it goes, I've told them they're all going to play."
The two teams will be playing quality competition on Saturday. University tips at 11 a.m. against Bishop Kearney (Rochester, NY), while Morgantown takes on Withrow (Cincinnati, Ohio) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night.
