Sentencing Date Set for 3 People Charged in U.S. Marshal Shooting

A sentencing date has been set for three people charged with lying about the whereabouts of a man who killed Deputy U.S. Marshal Derek Hotsinpiller.

Cassandra Smith, 25, Sherry Lou White, formerly Sherry Lou Smith, 48, and Anthony Lambert, 24, all from Elkins will be sentenced in U.S. District Court in Elkins on Feb. 28.

Judge Joseph Goodwin will oversee the case.

All three pleaded guilty to making false, fraudulent, and fictitious statements about the whereabouts of Charles Smith to law enforcement agencies last year.

Smith killed Hotsinpiller and wounded two other Deputy U.S. Marshals when they tried to serve an arrest warrant.

Smith was also killed.

All three face up to five years in prison.
