The Expression of Colors Autism Resource Center in Elkins opened nearly two months ago. The founder said expansion has already started.
"Client wise we started out with two the day we opened," said founder of the Expression of Colors Autism Resource Center in Elkins Katherine Davis. "We are now up to 68 clients in our regional area."
The expansion isn't stopping at clientele. The center has multiple projects in the works.
"We are offering now an adult skills lab," Davis said. "Which we are putting in a miniature living space area which we are able to assist them with learning how to make meals and to maintain an independent lifestyle for themselves."
Projects for the younger clients are also starting in the near future.
"They come here and we teach them, we start out with everything's a routine, everything's a schedule," Davis said. "They learn what's positive behavior and how to handle positive behavior. In the classroom, in a social setting, interactions."
Ultimately, the center looks to help individuals with autism with everyday skills.
"We will be putting in a sensory room," Davis said.
This will help offer support where they need it the most.
"This is very important with our therapy for our children," Davis said. "Sensory is an issue with our children. Touch the feel is very important to understand new things and create growth."
The center is expecting to open another facility in September.
