SALEM -
Several fire departments were on scene Sunday as fire destroyed two homes in Salem.
It happened just before 3:30 p.m. on Moore Street.
Salem Fire Chief Rick Todd said the fire started in a garage, and spread to two neighboring houses within ten feet of each other
A vehicle parked nearby was also totaled.
No injuries were reported, but the two houses were deemed a total loss.
Todd said the high winds played a factor in the spread of the fire.
"The wind carried a lot. I don't know what the wind gusts are at all today, but it definitely had a lot to do with causing the fire to spread to the outside of the homes," Todd said.
The state fire marshal has been called in to investigate. Crews from Reynoldsville and Nutter Fort Fire along with Salem Police and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources also assisted at the scene.
