Four Lincoln Players Sign to Continue Football Careers

SHINNSTON -

The Lincoln Cougar football team had an outstanding season in 2011, setting a school record for wins. Four of the key seniors will continue their football careers at the next level locally.

Linemen Frank Wright and Jacob McDougal are headed to WVIAC champion Concord. Both players are excited to work under head coach Garin Justice, who made a name for himself as a lineman at WVU. Wright and McDougal will continue their careers as linemen and both hope to make an immediate impact with the Mountain Lions. Frank was a First-Team All-State Defense selection this year and Jacob made the Honorable Mention list. Lincoln's success this year definitely helped the pair get recruited and both players said it was a quick decision.

"Towards the end of the season when I started picking up my game and doing better, he contacted my coach and we started talking from there," said Frank Wright.

"I didn't really start talking to them until about three months ago," commented Jacob McDougal. "Then they asked me to come down and tour their facilities and talk to them."

A second pair of players from Lincoln is headed to Fairmont State. Tyler Benton and Colton Burr signed to play with the Falcons. Both players earned All-State honors after the Cougars break-out 2011 season. Benton said the Fairmont State staff has talked about using him on defense. Burr, Lincoln's quarterback for the past couple of seasons, said he'll stay on the offense, but the Falcons plan on turning him into a tight end. Both Tyler and Colton are happy to stay close to home and to continue their careers, together, at FSU.

"Oh I love it," said Tyler Benton. "It's good to have the opportunity to play with another one of my teammates for a couple more years."

"You know, me and Tyler have been real close throughout the four years and we both played a little bit as freshman," said Colton Burr. "So just playing high school together and getting as close as we are, it's good to go to college and still be that."
