MORGANTOWN -
February is Children's Dental Health Month and it's important to remind parents of a few things.
It's always important to make sure your children are brushing and flossing properly, and even though baby teeth will be replaced, a local dental hygienist said not taking care of them could lead to problems down the road.
"If you lose baby teeth early," said Cindy Reed of Jann Barber Dental Care in Morgantown, "in the back, the teeth kind of don't come in where they are supposed to, and a lot of times they end up in orthodontists and things like that before they have too."
The Monongalia Health Department wants to remind you of a few things too:
Children should first see the dentist by the age of one.
Parents should begin brushing teeth twice a day as soon as the teeth begin to show.
Use safe to swallow, non-fluoride toothpaste until the age of three.
Finally, do not let small children take a "sippy" cup or bottle to bed with anything but water in it.
