WEB EXCLUSIVE: New A-B Football Coach Creehan Discusses the Excitement in Philippi

Posted: Updated:

I recently sat down with Alderson-Broaddus Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Denny Creehan about a variety of topics, including the excitement of football arriving in Philippi.

Creehan came to Alderson-Broaddus less than a year ago. He previously coached for two seasons at West Virginia Wesleyan College. He earned WVIAC Coach of the Year in 2010 after guiding the Bobcats to a 9-2 season.

Among the wide range of topics discussed in the interview, Creehan admitted that people in the Philippi community continue to display their eagerness and excitement for the new football program at A-B.

On the recruiting front, he also mentioned that more than 100 high school players have showed interest in the new program. Creehan also stressed the importance of recruiting in the state of West Virginia effectively in the near future and beyond.

Alderson-Broaddus College also plans to break ground on a nearly $7 million football stadium during the month of April. The Battler football team is not scheduled to play a home game in 2012 because of construction. Creehan said the team will compete against JV and Tech schools this coming season, but plans to be a full member of the WVIAC during the 2013 season.

What was once an idea is now becoming a reality. Alderson-Broaddus College will sport a football team for the first time since 1930, and Denny Creehan will be there to lead the way.
